Athlete of the Week Feature
This week's WDEL High School Athlete of the Week is Dan White, a sophomore soccer player at the Charter School of Wilmington.
Dan scored 4 goals last week, two each in Charter victories over Sanford and
Middletown.
Soccer goals come in many ways, and Dan says one is his tallies came after an
interesting carom.
"In our first game, Connor Mathis crossed the ball and it went off the cross bar and
right to my foot and I tapped it into the net."
White has shown a knack for finding the net in his brief high school career; he also
scored 5 goals in his freshman year last season. How would he describe his playing
style?
"I like to play with flair. I like to make moves and go past people. I also like to
get that nice pass in to feed someone through for a breakaway."
His clutch goal scoring has a long history. His favorite goal comes from a game over
5 years ago.
"Going all the way back to when I was a 9-year old. I scored a goal in my first ever
game with the Concord Chaos. It was against Lower Marion, and it tied the game up at
2-2."
Dan and his Force teammates had an undefeated regular season before falling in the
state semifinals. White wants go all the way to the title game for the seniors.
"They want to win so bad, coming off of last year's 4-1 loss to Caravel. We think
about that all of the time for motivation for this year.
