St. Mark’s wrestler Josh Snook is this week’s WDEL High School Athlete of the Week.
Snook went 3-0 in the 171 pound weight class during the Virginia Duels last weekend.
Snook also finished 7th in the Beast of the East tournament in Newark last month, how does the top competition help his grappling?
"It's all just preparing you mentally and physically. I think at the Virginia Duels you get your hardest matches there, along with Beast and Bethlehem. After that it's all just mental because I just wrestled my hardest matches so I shouldn't lose any more."
With all the high quality matches going on, Josh says focus becomes very important to avoid a tough loss.
"There's a lot of upsets going on in every match. It shows that you have to wrestle hard. Anything can really happen, so you have to go out there and it your all in every match."
Wrestling is both an individual and team sport. How does Josh balance the two sides of the sport?
"Both ways you have to go out there and wrestle as hard as you can. Either way, indivudually you wrestle hard, the only difference is sometimes you have to get a pin instead of just winning for the duel meets."
Josh just accepted a scholarship offer to the University of Maryland. What interested him in becoming a Terp?
"My brother goes there too. He's on the wrestling team, and I know it's a college that will get me where I want to be: hopefully placing in the NCAA's."
