Video Profile of Patrick Peterson
Wilmington Charter pitcher Patrick Peterson is this week's WDEL High School Athlete of the Week.
Patrick threw a perfect game in a 6-0 victory over William Penn Saturday. He also had 4 hits in a win over A.I. DuPont earlier in the week, and I asked him if he prefered recording a strikeout on the mound or getting a big extra-base hit at the plate.
"Probably a triple or a home run. Home runs help because you have to get runs on the board to win."
Charter opponents have been seeing double all year, Patrick's twin brother John also pitches, and Patrick says playing together creates a healthy rivalry.
"We expect a lot of reach other so we try to do our best every day. We compete so it gets the best out of us." Patrick says there's a difference between this year's 16-1 team, and last year's squad which missed the state baseball tournament.
"We have more experience. More confidence in the team knowing we should win most of our games rather than last year when we had a lot of young players come up and have to make a big contribution to the team quickly."
Next year Peterson will find himself in Philadelphia pitching for Temple. Why the Owls?
"I like the city and the coaches there. Plus I get the opportunity to play right away."
Before he heads to North Broad Street, Patrick Peterson hopes to bring a state title to Wilmington Charter. He is this week's WDEL High School Athlete of the Week. In Wilmington Sean Greene 1150AM WDEL Sports.
