Archmere field hockey player Elyse Andrews is this week's WDEL Female High School Athlete of the Week.
Elyse scored 5 goals in the Auks' 10-0 victory over Red Lion Christian.
Andrews has 28 tallies on the season, but says her biggest was an overtime winner against Sussex Tech.
"They're two-time defending state champions and really good. All season we were really looking forward to that game. It was like 'woo, yay, we won!"
The Auks have allowed just 4 goals this season, and Elyse says its senior leadership including herself which is helping the team.
"All of our defense and midfield came back from last year. We're all seniors so it's motivation to not let anyone in and let our offense do its work."
Archmere has several fall sports in championship contention, and Elyse says there is plenty of spirit in the hallways of the school right now.
"My best friend is on the volleyball team, every day she comes to the game and we're like 'woo, woo good luck.' Send her text messages, facebook messages, and there's so many facebook groups telling people to come out to support. All the energy is really good, everyone knows what's going on, they're willing to come to our games, support us with signs, and they ask you about it the next day.
Elyse has verbally committed to play lacrosse at Delaware, while majoring in biology, with the hopes of potentially becoming an allergist.
"I have really bad allergies, and I have since I was little. I'm always interested in helping people, and I like the idea of a puzzle to figure out what's wrong."
