Padua Academy swimmer Taylor Shelley is this week's WDEL Female High School Athlete of the Week.
Shelley won 4 events during the Panda's dual-meet victory over Ursuline on Tuesday.
Taylor is heading to Rider College to swim next year and says her high school career will help her.
"You're part of a team. No matter what meet it is, and what events you're swimming, it's always about your team. Even if you're having a bad day or you're not feeling well or something else happened you didn't like, you just have to put that aside and swim for the team, and not for yourself."
Taylor says she takes her role of captain seriously, using a voice she says she inherited from her dad.
"In a meet situation it's loud on the deck, you need to have someone to yell on top of everyone and have everyone be able to hear."
Taylor's swimming success has earned her a spots at various YMCA National meets, affording her a chance to swim against some of the best swimmers in the US.
"It's definitely intimidating the first time. But, after the first meet and the first time you're there, it's really exciting to compete at the level as a lot of other fast people, and to be able to swim in an atmosphere that's that energized."
When Taylor gets to Rider, she wants to eventually get into the Physical Therapy major.
"I wanted to help other people. I went to physical therapy in my life like many other athletes do. I figured it would be a good way to give back once I'm older."
