Sanford basketball's Johanna McMillan is this week's WDEL Female High School Athlete of the Week.
The junior helped pace the Warriors to the top seed in the DIAA Girls State Basketball Tournament.
Sanford is going for its 3rd straight title this weekend, but Johanna says they don't forget there are players on the team still looking for number one.
"A lot of us who have been on the past teams remember that feeling of what it's like to win a championship. For the new girls coming in we try to put it on them so they can feel that feeling.
Johanna said this year's team's best experience was their 40-39 victory over Ursuline, a game they amazingly trailed 10-0 after one quarter.
"Never give up, keep pushing forward. Make sure no matter what the situation is, help a team out when you're down, because I know some of my teammates got down, but we all game together, we focused, and we ended up getting the win in the end."
McMillan says the best advice she's received in basketball came from her AAU coach, and it was more mental than physical.
"If I got my confidence together and I worked hard, everything would come into place. You have to believe in yourself. Everything will be okay in the end, you just have to work hard."
Johanna says she'd like to continue basketball in college, but she isn't sure where, but she has a pretty good idea of what career path she wants to take.
"I want to study behavioral science and then work with troubled children. In the psychology area to help them out. I've been through a lot so I want to give back and help other people."
