Salesianum lacrosse goaltender Matt Barone is this week's WDEL Male High School Athlete of the Week.
Matt has allowed a total of 2 goals in wins over St. Andrew's and Wilmington Friends.
The senior is quick to credit the defense in front of him.
"They do it all. They've done a great job of limiting shots and keeping outside. I try to do my job, but they make it very easy for me to make saves."
Barone's goaltending career began with a simple request when he first started playing.
"I started playing lacrosse in 5th grade and the coach needed a goalie and I decided to try it out. I've been doing it ever sense, I love it, it's a lot of fun and I like the pressure."
Matt Barone's next challenge will be joining the new lacrosse program at Marquette University which will start play in 2013.
"The coaching staff and the whole community was really excited about the program. I definitely wanted to be a part of that. It's a great school in a great location (Milwaukee), I'm really looking forward to it next year."
A proficient goaltender, Barone also excels off the field, scoring a perfect score on the Math portion of the SATs, and says he's interested in engineering.
"Just like lacrosse and playing goalie I like the challenge that math presents. I think I have a good talent for it so it's something I like doing."
