Ursuline volleyball defensive specialist Taylor Hollingsworth is this week's WDEL Female High School Athlete of the Week.

Taylor had 52 of her team's 113 digs in a 4-set victory over Wilmington Friends Monday night.

The 5-foot-3 senior says her favorite plays are ones where she makes a great save to keep a play alive.

"The ones where everyone thinks the ball is on the ground. Maybe a pancake, a point where everyone thinks the point is over. Maybe the other team has started cheering, and it's like 'maybe there's hope, the ball's still up.' Some ones where you have to make diving stops in the corner, it's fun to hear the crowd."

Defensive specialists are often put in the challenging position of having the other team's top hitter slamming a spike right at them, how does she handle the pace so well?

"I try to say to myself when they're going up 'stay calm'. Because sometimes I find myself moving too much, and I have to remember to get to my spot you set your feet and you make the dig. That's the big thing with them, with such a hard hit you have to be in the right spot."

Due to her position she doesn't play at the net for Ursuline, I asked he if she ever wished she could be the attacker.

"I have been working on my vertical so I like to get a back row attack for fun. I really take pride in my position on the back row, it's such an important position to have and I really like being back there."

Next year Taylor will be joining St. Mark's star Lauren Talley on the Delaware Volleyball team. Hollingsworth says she'll be studying Behavioral Science with the goal of becoming a Physician's Assistant.

"I volunteered at A.I. (duPont) Children's Hospital this past summer. I realized my passion for children. I really want to be in pediatrics, so being in the hospital setting it really determined that's exactly what I want to do."
