Delaware Military Academy's Leigh Ann Lennon is this week's WDEL Female High School Athlete of the Week.
Leigh Ann averaged over 10 points a game in wins over St. Andrew's, St. Thomas More, and Red Lion Christian last week.
Leigh Ann checks in under six feet, but says she works hard for her nearly 9 rebounds a game.
"It gets tough on the inside, but I'm one of the tallest girls on the team so I have to sacrifice that and be the one to get beat up in the middle. It's tough, but we do it."
DMA is just five years removed from a 1-20 season, and Leigh Ann says she can see the differences from that team to the 11-2 squad of today.
"At practice we're definitely a lot more motivated. We know that every other school is looking at DMA and saying 'wow, we need to beat this team." At practice we're just pushing each other and working harder, and it's paying off.
One result of her team's efforts has been a changed role for Leigh Ann, who once averaged nearly 16 points a game, but now can focus on other parts of her game.
"Before I've been the scorer of the team, but now we have Renada (L'italien), she's scoring almost twenty points a game. I think my role right now is defense."
The senior says she's probably playing her last season of varsity-level basketball, but Leigh Ann says she hopes to nurture an interest in speech pathology.
"A lot of my younger cousins and siblings have been through speech therapy, so I know it's a field that needs people."
