Salesianum lacrosse attacker Jason Kelly is this week's WDEL Male High School Athlete of the Week.
The junior scored four goals in both victories over Archmere and rival St. Mark's last week.
Jason was quick to point out his teammates helped him achieve the goal totals.
"All of those goals, I'm pretty sure, were off assists. My team has been looking out for me, helping me out, and I try to do the same."
While Jason makes goal scoring look easy at times, the Sals' star says some research goes into his success.
"Knowing the goalie, where he's going to try to save it, you have to try to put fakes on him, look for the open part of the net, and shoot hard."
The 2-time defending state champs opened the state tournament with a 17-0 win over Concord Tuesday, but Jason says they've been working hard looking for the "3-peat".
"It all starts with pre-season. We've been lifting together and doing things together. Throughout the season we've been playing big games, big teams that help us get ready for the big games at the end."
Jason says he's seriously considering UMBC for college, and whoever gets his considerable talents should be happy to know the best advice he says he's received involves teammwork.
"Always give the ball up, because it's always going to come right back to you. Just playing as a team, once you start playing as a team it helps everyone flow together and you start scoring goals."
