VIDEO: Interview with Ursuline's Alyssa Irons
Ursuline sophomore Alyssa Irons is this week's M&T Bank / WDEL High School Athlete of the Week.
Alyssa hit a trio of important three-pointers in the Raiders' 55-50 victory over defending state champion St. Elizabeth Monday.
Coach John Noonan said Alyssa played a big role in the win despite hurting her ankle in practice.
"One of our therapists from ATI took care of her. They said she could go. Her two threes were huge, but she also had a run out and finished left-handed (for a layup).
Ursuline and St. E have played big games through the years, and Irons talked about playing in the rivalry.
"It's very intense and exciting, especially with a huge crowd. It gets you really pumped up."
Irons says she's been working on putting a key piece of advice she's received into use on the court.
"Be aggressive and keep your head up, because you can't get down on yourself, it'll just throw your game off and you won't do as well."
Just a sophomore, Alyssa hasn't thought about college majors yet, but says she has a useful favorite class at Ursuline.
"Leadership. It's teaching me how to grow and mature and how to be a leader."
