VIDEO: Interview with Pat Hally
Salesianum cross country runner Pat Hally is this week's M&T Bank / WDEL High School Athlete of the Week.
The two-time state champion signed a Likely Letter to run at the University of Pennsylvania this fall.
Which is he more proud of, getting to run Division I in college, or getting into an Ivy League school?
"I'm proud of both of them. I'm really excited to go to a D-I program and run there, and also just getting into a school like Penn is quite an honor."
Pat says his greatest moment as Salesianum was the 1-point victory his Sals had this fall to win the team cross-country championship.
"I was out front, but the rest of the team stuck together and outworked the other team to get first place by one point. Especially senior year, that's a great memory."
Runners are known for long workouts, and Haley says his longest run was a 14 mile effort during his training this season.
"It was at the end of the day, so I got to watch the sun set a little bit. It was nice, the long run helps you clear your head, and it just feels good to be out there."
His workouts will stay tough at Penn, but it sounds like Pat will have a strong academic challenge as well as a Chemical Engineering major.
"I'm a big fan of math and science, and also my grandfather and uncle are chemical engineers. I was interested in that from the beginning of high school and want to continue that interest."
