VIDEO: Interview with Sanford's Todd Hughes
Sanford Basketball's Todd Hughes is this week's M&T Bank/WDEL High School Athlete of the Week.
Todd wrapped up a successful high school career by competing in the Blue-Gold All-Star Basketball Game earlier this month.
The senior says taking off his high school uniform for the last time was bittersweet.
"It hurts because I loved my high school career. There was nothing like playing high school basketball, but it's time to move on to the future. I know God will bless me to go to college and play basketball. I know I'm ready for big things in the future.
Todd did some big things with Sanford, including his favorite moment from 2 years ago.
"My sophomore year we won the championship after coming to Sanford. Just seeing what it was like playing on a team, cutting down the nets, it was the best feeling ever."
Todd Hughes says he's picked up inspiration from a teammate from that squad, Syracuse starter Trevor Cooney.
"Syracuse being a high Division I school and a contender for a national championship and seeing someone come from where I came from makes you realize anything is possible with hard work. It's ridiculous how hard he works, so it's motivation for me to put in the work."
Todd says he'd be interested in become an agent when he's done with basketball, but says he's inspired by three important people in his life.
"My mom, my dad, and my sister. They push me. When I'm down after we lost in the quarterfinals, they helped me get my head back up and get back into the gym and keep pushing. That's my heart."
