VIDEO: Interview with Padua's Karlina Panella
Padua soccer's Karlina Panella is this week's M&T Bank / WDEL Female High School Athlete of the Week.
The junior tallied two goals with two assists in a rain-soaked 5-2 victory over Caesar Rodney Monday afternoon.
Her first goal came when she forced a mistake in the CR defense, and she says that's a team goal.
"We pressure every team: the backs, the goalies, anything. So when it popped out, that's exactly what we were looking for."
With her ability to equally score goals and also set-up teammates, I asked Karlina if she prefers goals or assists.
"A goal is a great feeling, but honestly at the end of the day, a win is a win, and you'll do anything to help your team get that. So an assist, a goal, they both mean something.
Karlina puts a ton of time into training for soccer, including running track and cross country. Why does she love the sport?
"The group of people is probably the number one thing. Soccer takes away some stress that I have, it gets all of my anger out."
Karlina says she's interested in getting into accounting when she's done at Padua.
"I love math, it's my favorite subject. Numbers just click for me, it's not hard at all."
