Does anyone root for Tiger anymore?
Tiger Woods isn't playing very many golf tournaments this year...of course his season didn't get started until the Masters because of his self-imposed hiatus to deal with his marital issues.
However, here we are late in July and he hasn't won in 7 tournaments...in fact, hasn't really been a factor in any of them, even though he has a couple of top 5 finishes.
I must confess, I have never been a Tiger fan. I know a lot of people want to see him win all the time...I've never been that way. It's bad for golf (although maybe not for the ratings).
I've always had a problem with someone that good, who makes that kind of money, who doesn't seem like he's having a good time. If he's not winning, he's an incredible grouch. And while he's improved a hair since his affair(s), he has drifted back into the surly Tiger time and again and his language sure hasn't improved.
So my question is...in light of his character flaws that we now know about, and his lesser golf game, does anyone still root for Tiger...as they did before his indiscretions were revealed. I know that behavior made me like him even less....I'm not sure how anyone can root for someone who has that little regard for his wife. And don't tell me his marriage isn't any of my business...I realize it's not my business, but since I know about it, it certainly influences my thinking.
Anyone out there still a Tiger fan? Judging from tghe crowds that still follow him, I would say yes.

| People want to watch and experience greatness. People said the same thing about Pete Sampras. He has been one of the most gracious champions ever and (in my opinion) the greatest player ever. but when he was playing he was 'surly, aloof, distant.' Great champions usually are - they are singularly focused and driven. That is why they are great. If Tiger hadnt been caught with his pants down people would still be rooting for him to be the greatest ever...until the next one comes along. |

I would like to know why there is so much media frenzy about Tiger, and why the sports media continues to insult our intelligence?
During the British Open, Louis Ousthousen had a wide lead from Day One, but the media didn't say a peep about the guy who was on top of the leaderboards. Instead, there was story after story after story about Tiger Woods ---who was like 15 shots back, and not even in the Top-20 on the leaderboard.
Finally, Louis Ousthousen won, and there was a golden opportunity for the media to profile the new British Open champion.
What happened?
Well, all of the stories on ESPN, CBS Sports, SI.com "mentioned" the winner in passing, then proceeded to write dozens of post-mortem stories on "What happened to Tiger?"
Although I love sports, and have been a sports fan since I was two-years-old, the sports media makes it impossible for me to pay attention anymore.
P.S.: Big, you know I love you and I've been a fan of yours since 1990, but why not write a blog about Louis Outhousen? |

i am not a big golf fan, but sometimes watch the big events.
it seems i had more enjoyment when tiger wasn't in the hunt. as mike so inelegantly says, it is too much about tiger when he is even within a sniff of the top, even when sometimes when he is not near the top it is too much about tiger.
so in a nutshell. i have never rooted for tiger to win. |
