Rick Jensen's World Famous 'Thirsty Thursday' Show August 22, 2013
The Thirsty Thursday Review, by Sabrina Aug 22, 2013
The past few weeks have featured a new voice on the show, a thirsty voice. A voice that heard from her cubicle Rick, Gene, Gina and Laurie were drinking beer on WDEL. My name is Sabrina, the new voice on Thirsty Thursdays. As an experienced radio broadcaster and an avid beer fan, I couldn't be more excited to be a part of the Thirsty Thursday team.
This Thursday we were joined by Dan Kopman of Schlafly Brewery in Saint Louis. (Say it with me, "Shhh-LAUGH- lee"). We began our taste bud journey with their Export IPA, featuring 100% English hops, a big malt backbone and subtle flavors of honey and orange marmalade. (Note to self: pair with sharp cheddar). Crossing the pond, we sailed our mouths back to America to take in their Dry Hopped APA, featuring American hops and bright citrus aroma.
After our taste buds were hopped to the fullest extent, we moved onto everyone's favorite, the Oatmeal Stout. Schlafly's Oatmeal Stout is brewed in classic British stout style and hugs onto the throat with its smokey roasted barley. This is your fall fire pit beer. It's not up for discussion.
For the second week in a row, Greg has undone the aforementioned goodness with palate displeasing non-alcoholic beverages. Last week, the coconut/almond/cherry waters he gave us tasted like the hand soap he enjoys using on Amtrak. This week Tazo brought us Passion, an herbal infusion with hibiscus and rose hips. It tasted like a candle. Laurie narrowed it down to the Holly Berry candle, a scent our olfactory bulbs recognize from the mall during holiday season. I am always suspect of anything that lacks calories and caffeine. Water wins this beverage war.
Gina popped in for the second half of the show to remind us that Premiere Wine & Spirit's Limestone road location now has growlers and Gene has apparently been practicing seeing poorly, or identifying IPAs for our "IPA Off" - a blind recognition test of some of the better IPAs.
Were you a witch when you were a teen? I may have seen you on TV.
