Jesus Christ Superstar In Concert at World Cafe Life at The Queen

City Theater Company is always turning things around on its head, and this season is no different. The start of their season is a one-night only concert-version of Jesus Christ Superstar, Andrew Lloyd Webber's rock opera that centers around Judas Iscariot.

The concert features Righteous Jolly, lead singer for Syrrah, as Jesus Christ. Righteous Jolly was last seen at CTC in Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson. Joe Trainor takes on the role made famous by Ben Vereen, Judas Iscariot. The rest of the roles in the show will be sung by a chorus of familiar names in the Delaware theatre and music community: T.S. Baynes, Petra Deluca, Dylan Geringer, Lew Indellini, Kerry Kristine McElrone, Dana Michael, Emma Orr, Frank Schierloh, Troy Sheaffer, Clayton Stacey, Adam Wahlberg, Steven Weatherman, and Bill Wilmore. The band includes Joshua Dowiak, Jake Hager, Michele Ferdinand, Leslie Carey, and Kanako Omae.

Jesus Christ Superstar was originally written as a concept album, and it wasn't until after it received praise that it was produced as a stage show. JCS was Andrew Lloyd Webber's second attempt at a "rock opera." This new production by City Theatre Company pays homage to the original idea behind Lloyd Webber's first album. While they are using the original concept album as their base, City Theater Company is adding the song "Could We Start Again, Please?" which was written for the film version of Jesus Christ Superstar in 1973. It really is a beautiful song, and I think will make a great addition to the concert concept of JCS. The downstairs venue at World Café Life at the Queen is the perfect venue for such a spectacular event.

Tickets for Jesus Christ Superstar are $20 for general standing admission. VIP tickets are $40 and include balcony seating and CTC swag. Some ticket fees may also apply. Doors open at 7:00 pm, and the show begins at 8:00 pm.
