For more than 30 years, the Center for the Creative Arts has served as a community arts center in Yorklyn, Delaware, teaching both performing and visual arts.
Executive Director Carla Pastore says the center's mission is to bring the arts to people of all ages and all backgrounds.
“We have a tag line where we say, 'we help you find the artist within.' Our niche really is to help that person who always wanted to experience the arts but was really too intimidated or too afraid to try.”
As a result, the center has a wide variety of offerings from painting and ceramics to jewelry making, and musical instrument instruction, all delivered in a way to make patrons feel comfortable.
“The arts tend to have a reputation at kind of a high end, and people are sort of afraid to come into that field. So we're the place that they can come, we can hold their hand and help them experience the arts.”
