| National School Choice Week 2013 |
Increasing access to great schools for all children -- that's the goal of National School Choice Week.
Andrew Campanella: "Kids are forced to attend schools based on their zip codes not based on what school is right for them."
That's a big part of the need for National School Choice Week that runs through February 2nd. But Delaware is faring better than a lot of other states.
Andrew Campanella is President of National School Choice Week.
Campanella: "There's a pretty good charter school in the state; 10-percent of kids go to charter schools. There's open enrollment, so parents can choose different public schools."
This week is dedicated to celebrating school choice where it exists and demanding it where it doesn't.
Campanella: "I think that when you have robust school choice and when you empower parents to be consumers in education and to pick and choose where their children go to school, all schools get better."
And the best part--you can raise awareness any way you want, and the options are endless.
Campanella: "Whether it's going to a meeting, doing a balloon launch, having a pizza party, an ice cream social, a coffee house night."
Because Campanella says you can't just rely on Washington.
Campanella: "You have to involve actual parents, actual kids, actual teachers in the discussion and get them involved in this."
