  • In his weekly radio address, President Bush applaudes China's economic growth which he believes will bring increased political freedom to the country. In the weekly Democratic response, Senator Barack Obama accuses Republican Presidential hopeful John McCain of embracing the Bush administration's policies. Obama says that McCain favors overfunding the Iraq war and underfunding schools and the nation's infastructure. (08/09/08)
  • In his weekly radio address, President Bush criticizes Democrats for not voting on a plan to possibly lift the federal ban on offshore oil drilling before summer recess. In this week's Democratic radio response, Rep. Henry Waxman says that Democrats are working hard to strengthen agencies that provide public health to families and children. This week, Waxman notes, Congress tightened rules for the Consumer Product Safety Commission concerning toys and tabacco advertising. (08/02/08)
  • In his weekly radio address, President Bush said he is eager to sign legislation that provides more money to fight AIDS and other diseases worldwide. In the Democratic weekly radio response, Senator Jack Reed insists that the Republican strategy in Iraq is not working. Reed calls on President Bush to redeploy troops out of Iraq so they can teach counterterrorism and military training to Iraqi soldiers, instead of writing "blank checks". (07/26/08)
  • In his weekly radio address, President Bush calls on lawmakers to open up offshore oil exploration in hopes of reducing dependence on foreign oil. The President also asks Congress to find a solution to help revive the housing finance industry. In the weekly Democratic radio address, Senator Patty Murray confronts the oil crisis and how the high price of gasoline is hurting American families. (07/19/08)
  • President Bush addresses America's concern about rising energy prices and Congress's restrictions on drilling for oil. In addition, he proposes a four step plan that would expand American oil and gas production. Democratic Congressman, Chris Van Hollen affirms that Democrats support more drilling, but argue that oil companies aren't seeking oil where they already have leases. He also says that America must begin to focus on new energy policies that focus on alternatives to oil. (07/12/08)
