VIDEO: Hodgson's Ridgeway-Higgs named "Athlete of the Week"
Hodgson Vo-Tech shooting guard Parris Ridgeway-Higgs is this week's "WDEL High School Athlete of the Week."
Parris scored 49 points in victories over St. Georges Tech and Delcastle last week.
The sharpshooter says he's getting plenty of help from his point guards.
"They break the defense down and kick it out to me. I'm good for the 3. I made 5 threes in the first game and in the second I made three 3's."
Ridgeway-Higgs, a junior, says early success is the key to his game.
"If I get started, I can do a lot of damage throughout the game. I try to keep the same mindset when I'm shooting that I want to make all of them."
Parris says his favorite players in the NBA are LeBron James and Derrick Rose, and he's trying to learn from them.
"I go on YouTube and watch highlights everywhere. I watch them during the game on TV, that's what I do."
Parris says he got an early start in basketball, and hoops are rooted in his DNA.
"I was six, and my mom was a basketball player in college. She taught me certain things, and my Dad helped her out along the way."
Parris hopes to take those lessons and lead the Silver Eagles to a long and winning campaign.
