VIDEO: Ursuline's Noonan is WDEL "HS Athlete of the Week"
Ursuline Academy lacrosse player Austin Noonan is this week's WDEL High School Athlete of the Week.
Noonan scored her 300th career goal in a victory over Sanford last Tuesday.
Austin says a lot of trust goes into a goal-scoring play.
"They have to look for you and you have to look for them. They have to have confidence in you to catch it and you have to have confidence in them to actually make a good pass to complete the whole play."
Noonan played her final high school game in a 13-9 state tournament loss to Tower Hill. What was going through her mind after the game?
"I wasn't really upset, it was kind of buttersweet. I know we did a lot, we brought Ursuline lacrosse to a whole new level that other people didn't think we could get it to.
Austin says she started playing lacrosse thanks to the family of former Athlete of the Week honoree Haley Schweitzer. While she loves the sport now, she didn't at first.
"I remember the first practice I went to in 5th grade, I didn't want to get out of the car. I was like 'I don't want to play, I don't want to play, I'm going to be so bad,' I was like 'just do it, go!", but I liked it."
Noonan is heading to college to play lacrosse at Boston University. She thinks "Beantown" will fit her personality perfectly.
"I'm a very hyper person and I get bored very easily, so being out in the middle of nowhere wasn't going to work out for me. I love being in the city with a lot going on and there are so many different colleges there, so I'm really looking forward to it."
