VIDEO: Tatnall's Jones - WDEL Female HS Athlete of the Week
Tatnall swimmer Kaitlyn Jones is this week's WDEL Female High School Athlete of the Week.
Kaitlyn won the 200 meter individual medley and 100 meter backstroke at last year's state high school championships.
On a bigger stage, Kaitlyn won a gold at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, and said it was an amazing experience.
"Just to be able to represent my country in any way possible. It's amazing, you want represent it the best way you can."
Kaitlyn will swim in the 2012 Olympic Trails, and Kaitlyn says she gets help from her club and school teams for that push, even at early hours.
"Goals get us up at 5am to swim. It gets us through the practices, the hard parts. We push each other, we encourage each other, it all helps."
Kaitlyn's parents introduced her to swimming at age 6, but said the initial goal wasn't to be one of the world's fastest.
"They thought it would be important for me to know how to swim. My mother doesn't really know how to swim, although my father can swim a little bit."
In terms of role models, Kaitlyn mentioned fellow swimming phenom Missy Franklin, and a certain 6-time Olympic medalist.
"Ryan Lochte has some great goals in mind. Just to see the way he trains and how much he loves the sport is inspiring."
