VIDEO: Caravel's Gumbs - WDEL Female HS Athlete of the Week

Caravel basketball's Olivia Gumbs is this week's WDEL Female High School Athlete of the Week.

The Buccaneers' freshman has basketball in her DNA, her brother Erique currently starts for Towson, and Olivia says he keeps in touch with her.

"We talk a lot. We talk usually at night when he's free. He tells me because he went through it that we'll be okay. We're going to have some good years, and there's a lot to expect and it will be great.

I asked Olivia to give us a scoring a self-scouting report.

"Aggressive, definitely. She's going to be all over the place grabbing rebounds, that's what she likes to do."

Caravel's success is due in part to coach Kristen Mills-Caldwell, the school and state scoring leader, and Olivia says her experience is rubbing off on her team.

"She pushes us a lot. She knows a lot of the things we're going through and how we feel about certain situations so she can relate to us."

As for athletic role models, Olivia looks at both a NBA and a WNBA player.

"Dwight Howard, I love the way he plays defense and he's very aggressive when it comes to rebounding. Lisa Leslie was very diverse in her playing, she wasn't one-dimensional."
