VIDEO: Dickinson's Valentin - WDEL Male HS Athlete of the Week

Dickinson volleyball setter Luis Valentin is this week's WDEL Male High School Athlete of the Week.

Valentin has helped pass the Rams to a pair of wins over St. Marks and Wilmington Charter early in the season.

Dickinson had just 3 wins last year, and Luis says experience has been key.

"Last year we had a lot of raw talent. This year we've incorporated that talent with a little bit of experience and we've done a better job overall hitting and passing."

The setter is volleyball's answer to the quarterback, and Luis says he knows when things are going right.

"Going out of my hands I can tell if it's going to be too close to the net or just perfect and I already expect a kill. I won't even look on the other side to think they're going to dig it because I have a lot of confidence in my teammates."

While there's no state championship in volleyball, Dickinson won the county title in 2007, and Luis hopes a good season could boost his school's athletics morale.

"We're hoping this year is the year to bring a trophy back to Dickinson. Give them a boost so they can bring a trophy back too."

Luis says it's too early to see where or if he'll play volleyball in college, but says he'd like to work with computers.

"I'm really fond of computers and cameras, and working with Macs and PCs."
