Bull horns sound off in Lewes asking residents to leave
Like many communities, Lewes is preparing for the worst. Police and fire companies spent Sunday roaming the streets with a bull horn, knocking on doors, warning residents that it was time to go.
"We're aware of the Governor's limited state of emergency for Lewes, mandatory evacuation East of the Canal, and Cape Henlopen High School is pet-friendly. So we're trying to get the word out to people, who are in that area, anyway that we can," says Mayor Jim Ford.
Cape Henlopen and Indian River High Schools are open as shelters. Cape Henlopen is pet-friendly.
Other shelters are at Milford Middle School and Dover High School. If you need transportation to the nearest shelter, you can call Kent and Sussex Emergency Operations Centers for a ride. The hurricane hotline number is 800-464-4357.
