Pettyjohn's name to stay on ballot in Sussex race; GOP hails high court ruling

Delaware Republicans are happy with the state Supreme Court's decision to uphold a Chancery Court ruling putting Brian Pettyjohn's name on the ballot in the 19th District state Senate race.

The GOP Tuesday released a statement quoting Chairman John Sigler as thanking the state judiciary, and saying the ruling means thousands of Sussex County voters won't be disenfranchised.

The party filed suit in Chancery Court after state Elections Commissioner Elaine Manlove ruled Pettyjohn would stay a write-in choice after the original Republican candidate, Eric Bodenweiser, withdrew from the race--Bodenweiser was later indicted on child sex abuse charges.

Pettyjohn faces Democrat Jane Hovington November 6th.
