Rehoboth tree lighting

A tree that will be the center of this year's Christmas celebration in Rehoboth Beach is coming from a family's nearby yard.

The Daily Times of Salisbury reports the tree was donated by Doris and Donald Donahue of Lewes.

The couple bought the tree for their family's 1990 Christmas celebration and then planted it outside.

Doris Donahue estimates the tree grew to 25 to 30 feet high before being cut down on Wednesday.

It will be officially lit on Nov. 23, the day after Thanksgiving.
