VIDEO: WDEL's Feed a Friend raises $12K
Thanks to YOU, five local shelters, soup kitchens and food banks will be going on a shopping spree.
WDEL listeners donated more than $12,000 to the 7th annual WDEL Feed a Friend food drive.
Kimberly Kegerreis with YWCA Delaware says the money will be put to good use.
"Through our home life management center, we help families regain structure after being homeless, and a big part of that structure is to have an immediate need for food and clothing and the Feed a Friend program really helps to supply a lot of the food that's needed for those families," says Kegerreis.
Polly Sierer with the Newark Area Welfare Committee says they'll use the money to provide holiday food boxes to families in need.
"The number of people in need in the Newark areas has increased. We have received a list of names that is more than ever, more than we've ever received, and we anticipate doing the most boxes ever this holiday season to families in Newark," says Sierer.
Rev. Tom Lehman with Sunday Breakfast Mission is thankful for your help.
"A lot of the food that is contributed to Feed a Friend also enables us to provide the 50-60 food boxes that we give out per week to needy families," says Lehman.
Emmanuel Dining Room and St. Paul's Church Outreach Center will also go to Costco later this month to purchase whatever they need.
