VIDEO: Brooklyn school overwhelms host St. E
Bishop Ford's 20-1 second quarter broke open a tight game and gave the Falcons a 58-35 victory over host St. Elizabeth in the opening round of the Diamond State Classic Thursday night.
The Brooklyn school quickly jumped ahead 9-2 after Aaliyah Lewis, who has committed to St. John's for next season, stole a pass and went in for a layup.
It took three minutes for St. Elizabeth to even the game at nine, with the tying basking coming off a drive by WDEL Athlete of the Week Macy Robinson.
The Falcons took the lead for good moments later on a long jumper by Lewis, and they lead 15-12 after one.
The second quarter proved to be the difference as St. Elizabeth struggled to get open looks against an aggresive Falcon defense, while three pointers by Aaliyah Jones and Jill Conroy helped break open the game and easily advance to the First State Orthopedic Cup semifinals on Saturday.
Lewis scored 19 points while Jones added 12 for the Falcons who will face Reynoldsburg (Oh.) Saturday, while Sabrina Hackendorn's 11 points weren't enough for the Vikings, who have a consolation round date with Bullis School (Md.) Saturday.
