VIDEO: Sallies' icers defeat St. Mark's
Patrick Cunningham recorded a hat trick as three sets of Salesianum hockey teams each beat St. Mark's in the DFRC "Hockey for a Cause" at the University of Delaware Thursday night.
Salesianum mixed their varsity and junior varsity into three separate teams to compensate for the fact St. Mark's only has an 11-person varsity squad without a JV.
In the opening period, J.P. Sawyer and Cunningham scored early goals to put the Sals up 2-0 just 3:33 into the context. Despite the Sals peppering the Spartans defense with shots, the game remained that way, until an avalanche broke open with Dan Thompson's goal at the 7:15 mark. Cunningham would add his second goal 68 seconds later, preceding goals by Tiernan Saningen, Terry Logue, Zachary Zbranak, and then Cunningham's 3rd of the night with just 13 seconds remaining.
Salesianum's took the second period 5-1, as defenseman Dan Crisona scored a pair of goals. Jeremy Wagner scored what would prove to be St. Mark's only goal of the evening late in the stanza when he split a pair of defenders and snapped a shot past the goaltender.
St. Mark's held Sallies to only 14 shots in the 3rd period, but still lost 3-0 as Gabe Moser scored a pair of goals 20 seconds apart.
The game benefited the Delaware Foundation Reaching Citizens with Intellectual disABILITIES.
