Marshall: City auditor in Wilmington should be elected position
Should residents in Wilmington be able to hand pick their auditor?
Democratic state Senator Bobby Marshall is trying to convince city and state lawmakers that they should.
Currently the Mayor makes that choice.
"I'd like to have a meeting with the Mayor, Council member Gregory and others and hopefully get some consensus and feedback about their belief on having an independent auditor. I think it adds more openness, transparency, and creates a level of confidence in all city residents and taxpayers," says Sen. Marshall.
Marshall has a measure on the table that, if passed, would require that as of 2014, the auditor in Wilmington would be elected to a four year term.
