Delaware's oldest school to close
The Milford School Board has voted unanimously to close what may be Delaware's oldest operating schoolhouse.
Administrators had warned that Milford Middle School's building is too run down to continue operating next fall.
The middle school building was built during the Great Depression in 1929. A committee of residents, business leaders and school employees considered different options for the school. But the group ultimately concluded the costs of renovating it were too high.
Superintendent Phyllis Kohel told The News Journal that students in sixth through eighth grades will attend Milford Central Academy beginning next year. The school district may have to add a modular classroom at the Central Academy to make room for extra students.
Grades nine through 12 will attend Milford High School.
