VIDEO: CR gets the victory in the seventh
Caesar Rodney's baseball team traveled up north to face Concord in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon.
The Riders lost a tough 7-5 battle against the Raiders last year, but a two out throwing error by Concord gave the Riders the game winning run. The Riders picked up their second win of the season with a 5-4 victory.
Caesar Rodney(2-1) didn't waste anytime, as they strung together hits to get the early 1-0 lead. Seth Brosius drove in the run with a hard hit single to right field, but after the right fielder misplayed the ball, Brosius cruised to second.
Concord answered in the bottom of the first, when John McGarvey put the Raiders ahead 2-1 with a 2RBI double up the middle.
In the third, the Riders continued strong offensively when freshman Quintin Ivy hit a double of his own to drive in two Riders' runners.
The Riders led 4-2, until the bottom of the sixth, when Concord's Evan Moser earned an RBI with a double, followed by Graham Haines' hard hit ground ball to score Moser for the 4-4 tie.
In the top of the seventh, Gabe Rivera and Kendall Wicks hit back-to-back singles with two outs. Wicks took off for second base and a Concord throwing error allowed Rivera to score the game winning run.
Wicks went 2-for-4 for CR, and Concord's McGarvey led the Raiders with two doubles and two RBI's.
Concord (2-1) lost their first game of the season and will host another game at noon against Hodgson on Thursday, while Caesar Rodney will travel back up north to face St. Marks Thursday.
