Women-owned firms growing above national average
More women are owning businesses in Delaware at a rate that's slightly above the national average according to a research advisor from American Express.
Julie Weeks, a research advisor with American Express OPEN, says Delaware is just ahead of the national average of growth of women owned firms, but is below average in employment growth.
"The average size of the women-owned firms has shrunk in terms of employment both between 1997 and 2013," she says.
However, she says those firms are producing an estimated $3.6 billion--a rise of 95 percent, well above the national average of 63 percent, good for tenth in the nation.
