VIDEO: Blue Rocks' losing streak at 7
Salem scored four runs in the 3rd inning to slide past Wilmington 5-4 Monday night, handing the Blue Rocks their 7th straight loss.
The Red Sox jumped on Wilmington starter Kyle Zimmer right away, as leadoff batter Sean Coyle took the 5th pitch of the game over the left-field wall for a quick 1-0 lead.
Daniel Mateo tied the game in the 2nd on an RBI single to left field which plated Lane Adams who led of the inning with a walk and stolen base.
Zimmer would get in more trouble in the 3rd inning as a collection of three ground ball singles and a walk led to four Salem runs and a 5-1 advantage.
Wilmington steadily chipped their way back into the game, getting a run in the 5th on a 2-out RBI double by Justin Trapp.
In the next inning after Red Sox starter Henry Owens was pulled, Wilmington immediately greeted Robby Scott with the combination of a 1-out single by Cheslor Cuthbert and then an RBI triple by Adams. Mateo followed up with an infield single to shortstop to make it 5-4.
The rally stopped there however, as Salem's combination of Nefi Ogando and Matty Ott shut the door with 3 perfect innings, as Ott picked up his first save of the season.
Zimmer surrendered 5 runs on 6 hits in four innings as he fell to 0-2 for Wilmington.
Henry Owens (2-1) gave up 2 runs on just 3 hits in five innings for Salem.
John Lamb (1-2) gets the start against Kyle Stroup (1-1) Tuesday night at 6:35 in game two of the four game set at Frawley Stadium.
