VIDEO: Offensive explosion ends Blue Rocks' losing streak
The Blue Rocks exploded for six runs in the 6th inning, as they snapped a 7-game losing streak with a 10-3 triumph over Salem Tuesday at Frawley Stadium.
Wilmington had scored just nine runs total in their previous four games, but quickly jumped ahead on a 2-run homer from Jorge Bonifacio in the 1st inning, his first long-ball of the season.
The "Blue Crew" put together another 2-run rally in the 3rd inning, ignited by getting their first three batters picking up base hits, including an RBI single by Bonifacio. Daniel Mateo scored the other run when Salem misplayed a grounder by Kenny Diekroeger which would have ended the inning.
Salem chipped the game to 4-2 on an RBI double by David Renfroe in the 4th and a solo shot by Garrin Cecchini in the top of the 6th.
Things fell apart for Salem in the bottom of the inning however, as Wilmington sent 10 batters to the plate against Red Sox pitching.
Kenny Swab opened the inning with a double, which was followed by a Chris Elder RBI triple to stretch the lead to 5-2. Justin Trapp and Mateo both followed with RBI singles to push the lead to five. Following a pair of outs and Jack Lopez being hit by a pitch, the bases were loaded for Diekroeger.
The Rocks' 2nd baseman tripled into the right field corner, scoring all three runs to complete the damage The six runs would be more than the Rocks have scored in all of the 7th (2) and 8th (1) innings they've played all season.
Bonifacio finished 2-3 with two walks and 3 RBI while Mateo went 3-4 with two doubles and 3 runs scored.
John Lamb (2-2) earned the win for Wilmington by allowing two runs over 6 innings with 7 strikeouts.
The teams continue their four-game series Wednesday night at 6:35 at Frawley Stadium.
