Newark resident qualifies for PGA Championship
Newark resident Dave McNabb carded a 1-under 71 to finish in a tie for 9th in the PGA Professional National Championship in Sunriver, Oregon, qualifying him for the PGA Championship in August.
The top 20 finishers out of the 78 players who made the cut over the four-round tournament qualified for golf's fourth and final major of the year. McNabb clinched his spot with a solid round featuring four birdies, including going back-to-back on the 10th and 11th holes.
Rod Perry won the tournament by three strokes over Ryan Polzin.
McNabb won the 2012 Delaware Open Championship at DuPont Country Club.
The Head Professional at Applebrook Golf Club in Malvern, Pa. moved to Delaware in 2003. He'll get to compete at Rochester (N.Y.)'s Oak Hill Country Club August 8-11.
