Wilm. residents can cool off with free fans, pools and spray parks

Wilmington residents have a few options to cool off during the hot summer days this week.

The mayor's office says if you're 55-or-older, you can get a free electric fan if you call the office of constituent services.

You're also advised to check in on elderly relatives or neighbors.

City pools and spray parks are also open during the summer, at the following locations and times:

Spray parks (each location is open from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on weekdays):

  • Father Tucker Field at 9th and Lincoln Streets

  • Woodlawn Park at 4th and Ferris Streets

  • Helen Chambers Park at 6th and Madison Streets

  • Brown Park at 8th Avenue and Duncan Street

  • Judy Johnson Park at 3rd and Clayton

  • Eastlake Playground at 30th and Madison Streets.

City pools:

  • Foster Brown Pool
    7th and Lombard Streets
    Open Thursday - Monday
    1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

    (Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays, including July 4)

  • Prices Run Pool (Brown, Burton, Winchester Park)
    26th Street and Speakman Place
    Open Monday - Wednesday, Friday - Saturday

    1:00 to 6:00 p.m.

    Closed Sundays and Thursdays)

  • William "Hicks" Anderson Community Center Pool (indoor pool)
    501 North Madison Street
    Open Monday - Friday
    1:00 to 6:00 p.m.

    (Closed Saturdays and Sundays)

  • P.S. DuPont School (indoor pool)
    701 West 34th Street
    Open Tuesday - Thursday
    1:00 to 6:00 p.m.

    (Closed Friday - Monday)
