VIDEO: Tatnall football rallies past Pa. opponent
Tatnall's football team showed a ton of heart Thursday as they came back to win against the Academy of New Church (Pa.) 24-21.
The Hornets opened up strong as quarterback Tyler Tachner threw a touchdown pass to wide receiver Brandon Goodge for the first points of the game with just 42 seconds remaining in the opening quarter. The extra point was no good, but Tatnall led 6-0.
New Church would respond in the second quarter when running back Anthony Weizer punched in the short yardage score. Weizer would run the 2-point conversion in himself as the Lions would enter the half leading 8-6.
After Tatnall didn't score on their opening 2nd half possesion, the Lions extended their lead when Rashee Hall found the endzone with a rushing touchdown six minutes into the 3rd quarter. The 2-point conversion would be no good keeping the Academy's lead at 14-6. Soon after, a defensive touchdown would add to New Church's lead as Samir Philips would scoop up a fumble and rumble in for the score. After the missed 2-point the score would be 20-6.
Tatnall would quickly respond on a long passing touchdown from Tyler Tachner to Brandon Goodge for the second time in the game with only 3:52 left in the third quarter. The extra point attempt would be short and the score would stand 20-12.
Tatnall's defense then stiffened in the 4th quarter, holding New Church scoreless. Meanwhile, the offense would come alive behind running back Austin Edge as he would run in a pair of rushing touchdowns at the 9:48 and 4:35 marks. Both 2-point conversions would be no good as Tatnall completed the comeback victory.
