Gas prices falling as summer heads to fall

Area drivers are getting a break at the pump as summer is turning to fall.

Triple A Mid Atlantic says gas prices fell a penny over the weekend to $3.48 a gallon. A year ago, the average was $3.85 a gallon.

Spokeswoman Jana Tidwell says lower demand, increased supply and a mild hurricane season are all factors in lower costs of fueling up.

She says escalating tensions in the Middle East and a ramping up of hurricane activity could quickly change the current outlook.
