VIDEO: Carroll rushes the Colonials to victory
The William Penn football team gave coach Marvin Dooley a nice birthday gift Friday night, when the Colonials rolled past the Newark Yellowjackets 28-7.
The Yellowjackets (2-3) scored first, when quarterback Ben Campbell dished to senior Keith Stubbs, who ran for an 80-yard touchdown to give Newark the 7-0 advantage.
The Colonials (3-2) responded shortly after, when quarterback DJ Johnson ran to the end zone to knot up the score with 4:44 left in the opening quarter.
William Penn's Reggie Carroll scored the next three touchdowns. He broke through many Newark defenders to earn a 53-yard touchdown before the half.
In the third, Carroll scored a 52-yard rushing touchdown, and he added one more more in the final quarter for three yards.
The junior running back has a total of nine touchdowns this season.
Every extra point attempted by kicker W. Poppe was good, and although the Colonials dropped its first two games of the season, William Penn is currently on a three-game winning streak.
The Colonials have a tough match up against an undefeated powerhouse, when they host a Homecoming game against the Middletown Cavaliers next Saturday.
Newark will hope to rebound, when the Yellowjackets play another conference game against A.I. duPont next Friday.
