VIDEO: Sals make themselves at home at St. Mark's
Salesianum's defense dominated in their first game at St. Mark's home field, claiming a 21-0 shutout victory Friday night.
After playing for years at Baynard Stadium regardless of who the home team was, St. Mark's moved their home game onto their on-campus stadium, and a defensive struggle ensued.
The Sals' Troy Reeder finally broke the scoreless tie with 1:29 to go in the first half when he plowed ahead 15 yards for a touchdown, giving the visitors a 7-0 lead at intermission.
Daulton Gregory doubled that advantage off the opening kickoff of the second half, returning the kick 96 yards for a touchdown just 14 seconds into the second half.
Quarterback Matt Sgro completed the scoring with 6:47 remaining when his three-yard sneak put the Sals up 21-0 after the extra point.
St. Mark's twice attempted to mount drives in the final minutes, but Jared Lewis and Louis Fedele both intercepted passes for Salesianum to preserve the shutout.
Salesianum (6-1) returns to Baynard Stadium for their final three games of the regular season beginning with Friday's tilt with Delaware Military Academy.
St. Mark's (4-3) hits the road for a vital matchup with Caesar Rodney next Friday.
