Plea eyed for ex-banker facing Del. sex charges
Public defenders for a former Bank of America executive charged with trying to have sex with a 13-year-old girl are trying to work out a plea deal with federal prosecutors.
In court papers filed Friday, attorneys for 59-year-old Kirk Simmons of Newark asked for more time to file pretrial motions, which are due Monday. But they also said they are in negotiations that may resolve the case without the need for a trial.
Simmons is charged with attempted enticement and coercion of a minor and attempted production of child pornography. He was arrested in July outside a Newark hotel where he allegedly had arranged with an undercover detective to have sex with the fictitious girl. He was subsequently fired from his job as a Bank of America vice president.
