Bus driver charged with fleeing scene of accident
A bus driver from Bear was charged Thursday with driving under the influence of a drug after state police say she left the scene of an accident involving a bus with 30 children on board.
It happened around 8:30 a.m. on Cox Neck Road in New Castle.
Police say 51-year-old Kimberly Ogorek of Bear was driving the bus down the road when it veered off the road and crashed into a mailbox and guy wire.
The crash snapped the utility pole attached to the guy wire
The bus then returned to the road and police say Ogorek drove the bus to Southern Elementary School and dropped off the students before returning the vehicle to the bus yard.
Some of the students, police say, were treated for minor injuries.
Police say Ogorek was under the influence of a prescription drug and she told troopers that the accident happened because she tried to avoid hitting a raccoon.
She has been charged with driving under the influence of a drug, leaving the scene of an accident, failing to report an accident, failing to remain in a single lane, and 30 counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Ogorek was released on $17,000 unsecured bail.
