Georgetown man charged in crash that killed passenger
A Georgetown man is charged with vehicular homicide after crashing early this morning.
State Police say Victor Hugo-Martinez was driving a Honda Civic recklessly on County Seat Highway, before he struck the rear of a Volkswagen driven by his ex-girlfriend.
Police say the Volkswagen spun and traveled off of the south side of the roadway, striking several trees, while the Civic traveled off of the north side of the roadway, with the passenger side striking a utility pole with such force that the vehicle was nearly sheared into two pieces.
Police say passenger Jesus Diaz was not properly restrained in the Civic and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Volkswagen and other passengers involved in the crash were treated and released with minor injuries.
After further investigation, it was determined that Hugo-Martinez was driving under the influence of alcohol.
He was charged and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $16,500 Cash Bond.
