VIDEO: Curry lifts Howard over conference rival
Conference rivals Hodgson and Howard put on an exciting show on Thursday evening. The two Flight B teams were tied in the final seconds, but Howard's Alonje Curry put back the game-winning bucket to lift the Wildcats to a 59-57 victory.
Howard (2-3, 2-0 Flight B) led early in the first quarter 12-6, but Hodgson closed in on the lead when they outscored Howard in the second. At the break, the Wildcats held on to a 24-20 edge.
In the third quarter, Hodgson (4-2, 2-1) took a 32-28 lead with the help of Bilal Nichols and Ray Jones. Nichols led the Silver Eagles with 20 points.
At the end of three, Howard hopped back in front 37-36. But the Wildcats had to finish the game without one of their key scorers due to two back-to-back technical fouls.
To open the final quarter, Howard's Justin Cunningham hit one of his three 3-pointers on the night to extend the Howard lead, but Shermar Pride put Hodgson ahead 44-43 when he hit a three-ball of his own.
With a little less than two minutes left, Matt Peel, who finished with 17 points extended the Silver Eagles' lead 55-51 with consecutive made shots, but Howard's Jakir Stewart and Cunningham hit 3-pointers for the slight edge.
The contest was tied after Hodgson's LJ Stansbury drove to the basket for the layup, but in the final second Curry's rebound and shot gave the Wildcats the upset.
Cunningham led all scorers with 21 points.
