Superstorm Sandy damage closes Rocky Run Bridge
The DNREC Division of Parks and Recreation has permanently closed the Rocky Run Bridge within Brandywine Creek State Park.
Authorities say Superstorm Sandy and later flood waters weakened the bridge's support structure and made it unsafe for any use, including foot and cycling traffic.
The bridge is a part of the Creek Road Trail on the east side of the Brandywine River, and serves as the link between the park's Rockland Road and Thompson's Bridge parking areas.
Parks & Recreation Operations Administrator Paul Nicholson says an alternative crossing will be designed and built when funding is available.
