Man shot in Wilmington
A 25-year-old city man was shot in the leg at a street corner in Wilmington's Hilltop community on Monday, police said.
The shooting happened a little before 9:20 p.m. Monday in the area of W. 2nd and N. Van Buren streets, said Cpl. Mark Ivey.
Officers patrolling the area on foot heard gunfire and found a man with a gunshot wound to his leg at the Lucky Stop Market, Ivey said.
The initial investigation showed the man was standing on the corner of West Second and N. Van Buren streets when another man approached and shot him, he said.
The victim was taken to an area hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
The suspect is described as black, 18 to 30 years old, 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark pants at the time of the shooting.
It's the second time in two days that someone has been shot in Wilmington. A 21-year-old woman was shot in the area of West 25th and Washington streets early Sunday morning, police said.
This year, 23 people have been shot in Wilmington. Six of them were killed in those shootings.
