The Orioles have optioned Jake Arrieta to Triple-A Norfolk, where the right-hander hopes to iron out the control problems that have plagued him throughout the season.

Arrieta walked five and hit a batter over four-plus innings Sunday in a 7-4 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Although the 27-year-old gave up only two hits, he was charged with five runs and threw 91 pitches.

After being told of his demotion Monday, Arreita said, "I just wasn't doing my job well enough. That's the bottom line. The team needs me to be better."

Arrieta is 1-1 with a 6.63 ERA in four starts. He's walked 16 in 19 innings.

Baltimore recalled right-hander Alex Burnett from Norfolk. Burnett was claimed off waivers from Toronto on April 12.
